Posted by temasektimes on March 4, 2012
A Singapore company has approached a Filipino manpower agency – ‘Omanfil International Manpower Development Inc’ to recruit Filipino civil engineers specifically to fill four vacant positions.
The candidates must possess at least a Bachelor’s or College Degree and between 25 to 45 years of age. It is strange that the company is looking to hire Filipino engineers when Singapore produces hundreds of civil engineers each year.
The address of Omanfil International Manpower Development, Inc is:
2nd Floor Rodeo Building 802 Km 18 West Service Road , South Superhighway Paranaque City
Interested applicants can send your resumes to the above address, but only Filipinos are eligible to apply, not Singaporeans.

Hawker couple attacks S’pore family

Hawker couple attacks S’pore family

A Singaporean family was assaulted yesterday by a hawker couple known for their bad temper. (Yahoo!)A Singaporean family was assaulted yesterday by a hawker couple known for their bad temper. (Yahoo!)
A portion of anchovies, better known to locals as "ikan bilis", sparked off a brawl between a Singaporean family and a hawker couple at Food Loft along Clementi Ave 3 on Thursday.
According to local news website, AsiaOne, the dispute started after Julia, a STOMP contributor, took an extra portion of anchovies from a container placed outside the hawker stall after paying for her noodles.
The female stall holder, who according to Julia was from China, then raised her voice and said, "You Singaporeans who are paying so little money want to have so much of everything." She continued to complain to passers-by and her husband.
Julia's husband then approached the female hawker to ask why she was making a big fuss out of an extra portion of anchovies. Agitated, the female stall holder slammed the plastic container of anchovies that he was holding onto the table.
Julia's husband later revealed that they had also tried to take photos of the food from the stall. They had planned to make a report to National Environment Agency as the food did not seem clean.
This incurred the wrath of the male hawker, who stepped out of the stall and demanded to know why he was taking pictures. The hawker couple then started to attack Julia and her husband. Their 14 year-old son was punched in the process. The male hawker also hit Julia's husband's head with an object.
Julia's husband could not retaliate as Julia and the coffee shop owner had stopped him from doing so.
Even after the family ran away in defence, the hawker woman stood in front of Julia's car to prevent the family from driving off, allowing her husband to continue attacking the car from behind.
Julia sustained injuries on her back and head after falling while trying to stop her husband from retaliating during the attack. Both her husband's eyes were swollen and her son also suffered a bruised eye. The family's medical bills amounted to S$180. They also made a police report later that night.
The coffee shop owner later revealed that the hawker couple they encountered was known for their bad temper.
A police report has been lodged against the hawkers. The police have classified it as mischief and voluntarily causing hurt and are currently looking into the matter.

Filipino waiter cum PR jailed for punching cabby

Filipino waiter cum PR jailed for punching cabby

Taxi driver, Nadasan Chandra Secharan, was punched several times in the face after being accused by a Filipino couple for “queue jumping” at a NTUC FairPrice supermarket in Yishun Ave 11.
The attack left the 56 year-old cabby with a fractured jaw.
The assault was carried out by the husband of the Filipino pair, a 31 year-old Mr Benedict Policarpio Cortez who is a permanent resident working as a waiter in Singapore.
Mr Secharan was paying for his groceries at the cashier of the supermarket when he realised that he had forgotten to get a bottle of jam. He then excused himself for a moment to quickly run back to the shelf to grab one.
Upon returning to the cashier, he noticed a Filipino woman, Cortez’s wife, mumbling and staring at him. Mr Secharan then tried to explain to her that he wasn’t cutting queue and that he was in fact already at the cashier counter earlier. However, she promptly told him to shut up.
The duo then started arguing and it was about this time that Cortez showed up to join in the argument. Things turned from bad to worse.
Cortez then grabbed Mr Secharan’s bag of groceries and proceeded to walk out of the supermarket. Mr Secharan went after him to try get back his groceries. This was when Cortez turned violent and rained punches on Mr Secharan’s face.
As a result of the punches, the poor cabby was warded for four days at the Khoo Teck Huat Hospital.
On Thur (16 Feb), Cortez was sentenced by the Court to a one-month jail term for hurting the cabby. The Filipino waiter was also ordered to compensate Mr Secharan for his medical expenses.
It is not known if the Filipino will lose his PR as a result of his conviction.
The question remains, how did this Filipino waiter obtain his PR? Why was the PAP government giving PR to a waiter? Wouldn’t a W-Pass or S-Pass suffice? Do we consider a waiter, a talent? Perhaps Mr Cortex can also sing, dance, juggle and ride a unicycle while serving as a waiter?
Due to the indiscriminate giving out of permanent residencies to foreigners by the PAP government, the PR population has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years:
YearNo of PR in SG% incr
2005386,8008.6%
2006418,0008.1%
2007449,2007.5%
2008478,2006.5%
2009533,20011.5%
2010541,0001.5%
2011532,000-1.7%
[Source: DOS]
It was not until 2010 when Singaporeans started to voice out their unhappiness openly about the foreign influx as well as GE was approaching that the PAP government started to tighten the screws on granting of PRs.
However, the damage has already been done. It is not known how many unqualified talents who “slipped” into Singapore in earlier years still remain inside the PR population to this date.
