Singapore’s manufacturing output shrank an unexpected 9.6 per cent on year in November.
Analysts polled by Down Jones Newswires expected it to have expanded 12.2 per cent.
Releasing the figures, the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) said excluding biomedical manufacturing, output would have fallen a steeper 13.5 per cent.
On month, output declined 25.2 per cent.
EDB said output of the biomedical manufacturing cluster declined 0.6 per cent in November on year mainly due to a decline in pharmaceuticals production.
Output of the electronics cluster was 30.1per cent lower.
All except the infocomms & consumer electronics segment recorded lower output.
For the first 11 months of the year, electronics output declined by 12.4 per cent, compared to the same period a year ago.
The transport engineering cluster’s output expanded 17.4 per cent.
