The police told Yahoo! Singapore they received a call from a member of the public at about 2.05pm requesting for assistance. Loke was pronounced dead upon arrival of the paramedics.
Beside the driver lay an unopened box of Taiwanese suncakes with some money, a present for Loke from his sister, TNP reported.
His sister arrived at the scene at about 3:30pm and appeared distraught. She was later joined by a group believed to be Loke's family, it added.
The police have classified the case as an unnatural death.

Most of the taxi drivers that i spoke to drive more than 12 hours a day to meet the end needs. It is time for Comfort to look into reducing rental and give some benefits to the taxi driver. Poor Mr Loke must have been overworked. This is not a gracious society!

Not only taxi drivers work long hours, they got no CPF, no medical leave, no annual leave so if sick die die must also drive coz need to pay rental everyday.

Usually when I talk to taxi drivers they will say: ' Nowaday, their company will make them rent the new auto cabby that cost them more than $100 rental per day, compare to the old manual cab was less than $80 per day.'

Taxi co say cab driver can earn up to $3000/- per month but they never tell you that driver aren't pay CPF. If pay is really so good, Mr. Loke will be giving money to sister instead of the other way round. If you believe cab driver benefit from the fare hike, I urge you to look at the cab co next... More

The high cost of living is causing people to work till their death. I hope that the cab driver can rest in peace.

if taxi drivers are allowed to own their own taxi, as in the past, they need not wotk for another layer of unnecessary cost; like taxi companies, overheads can be lower and fares can be cheaper and stress lower
